Matthew 9:35-38
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
New International Version (NIV)
Perhaps you have seen the bumper sticker that says, “Jesus is coming back.  Everyone look busy.”  What would Jesus do if he lived on earth today?  I know.  The world is so different now.  So much technology.  So many resources.  And so much need.
If Jesus were here, he would forgive sins and empower people to “go and sin no more.”  He would call people to follow him.  Jesus would teach us.  He would proclaim the good news of his kingdom.  Jesus would heal people.
If Jesus were here, he would show compassion to the harassed and helpless sheep without a shepherd.  As Lord of the harvest, he would tell us to pray for workers to join the harvest and then he would ask us to become the answer to our own prayer.
What would Jesus do if he were you or I?  Do that.  Let’s definitely do that.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for sending us your Son and sending the Spirit until the work on earth is done.  We know it is not done.  So throw us out into the harvest field today.  Let us not miss the opportunity to show and share your compassion and preach your Kingdom.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
Our 2023 Every Day with Jesus readings are taken from Robert Murray M'Cheyne's Bible Reading Calendar. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
Please join us in reading through the scriptures again this year.  We will read the New Testament twice and the Old Testament once this year. M'Cheyne once said, “A man is who he is on his knees, and nothing more.”  Would you pray with me that God will make his word live to us this year?  Let’s not just get through the Bible.  Let it get through to us!

Joyfully,
Duane
