I got vaccinated, and the next day I felt sick, which I guess is fairly common. But I was worried about answering “yes” to the Daily Screener question about having symptoms, because I don’t want to have my access to NYU buildings taken away. What should I do?
We understand: some people do exhibit post-vaccination symptoms that are like COVID-19 symptoms within the 48 hours of their vaccination.
First, it is important that anyone who is feeling unwell stay home.
Second, individuals should always answer the Daily Screener honestly (and before they leave home for campus). If the responses result in a "fail” status on the Daily Screener, a member of the NYU COVID-19 Prevention & Response Team (CPRT) will reach out to you. When they do their assessment, they’ll take account of any recent vaccination history.
For most people, vaccine-associated symptoms resolve within 48 hours. If the symptoms continue past 48 hours, you should continue to stay home and you are required to
self-report symptoms to the CPRT.
If you need medical care or guidance:
- Students should contact the Student Health Center
- Employees should contact their healthcare provider
- If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911
And just FYI: the Daily Screener language was recently updated to help clarify this issue.
