Isn’t it romantic? The candy hearts have hit the shelves and the red roses are blooming out of all the local florist shops. The winter wind might feel pretty chilly, but nothing warms a person up faster than a little love. And I don’t know about you, but everywhere I look I’m seeing hearts and flowers.

February is a great time to sneak away with your sweetheart, and Brevard and Transylvania County are chock full of intimate inns, excellent restaurants and spectacular Lover’s Lanes (all accessible via car, bicycle, canoe, hike, horse or some combination) if you feel like exploring.  And of course there are plenty of thrilling events to fall in love with no matter what.

When it comes to Groundhog Day prognostication, Punxatawney Phil’s got nothing on Brevard’s own Pisgah Pete. Our beloved local white squirrel will be on hand to predict the duration of winter and the 2020 Superbowl winner. Cast off a case of the Monday blues with the sublime sounds of oboist Eric Ohlsson, pianist Deloise Lima and flutist Dilshad Posnock at this delightful free concert from Brevard Music Center. The program includes pieces by Telemann, Dring, Saint-Saëns and others, as well as plenty of opportunities to lose yourself in the beautiful music. 

Love may lift you higher, but you can achieve a little altitude on this fun 3-mile, easy-to-moderate hike around DuPont’s gorgeous waterfall loop. Hikers will receive a D.D. Bullwinkel swag bag and exclusive deals to use at the store and at Rocky’s Soda Shop.

Fans of great independent and foreign films as well as riveting documentaries may find their mecca at Brevard’s premiere non-profit community cinema. With weekly screenings of some of the best stuff out there, Pisgah Film House promises a fine place to find your new favorite film. 

Locals (and visitors) are warmly invited to come check out the scene and all the fantastic resources down at the Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center at this lively Valentine’s Day event. Outside Dogs will be on hand to provide live music and there will be door prizes, treats and much more.
