COMMUNITY NEWS & HIGHLIGHTS
| |
|
| | Federation in the News
Last Friday was a challenging day for our community, when swastikas were found graffitied at DC’s Union Station. As Federation stated at the time, this antisemitic and hateful symbol has no place in our society, and to find it in our city the week of International Holocaust Remembrance Day was particularly offensive. We’re thankful for the swift handling of the situation by our security team, Washington Metropolitan Police Department, and Amtrak Police, and for the continuing coverage of this situation in the local, national, and Israeli media, including in The Washington Post, WTOP, Jewish Insider, and The Jerusalem Post. Watch Federation CEO Gil Preuss discuss the recent rise in antisemitism on Fox5.

| | Honor the Memory of Avi West, z”l, Our Community’s Beloved Master Teacher
Avi West, z”l, was a true blessing to his friends and family, to Federation, and to our entire Jewish community. Federation has partnered with the West family to create the Avi West Endowment, a fund that honors the memory of our community’s beloved master teacher and exemplifies his educational values. The fund will grant up to $5,000 to one exemplary local Jewish educator as the recipient of the annual “Avi West Jewish Educator Award.”
Make a gift in Avi's memory. All gifts will be matched 2:1, thanks to a group of generous community members.
