| | In the News: Spotlight on the Den Collective
eJewish Philanthropy
Rabbi Aderet Drucker, Executive Director of Federation partner the Den Collective, shared with eJewish Philanthropy how the Den is helping locals in their 20s and 30s connect with Jewish life. The organization helps those who haven’t yet found their spiritual home create their own spiritual community, complete with Torah learning, a rabbi, holiday celebrations, and support at important life-cycle moments. As Drucker notes, “These are rich spiritual communities where people are known to each other, and show up for each other.”

| From Sanctuary to Synagogue
Biblical Archaeology Society of Northern Virginia
Join Dr. Robert Stieglitz, Rutgers University Professor Emeritus, for an illustrated lecture about the origins of the synagogue and its decorative arts. This religious institution and its practice have roots that can be traced back to the Biblical traditions of the sanctuary, also known as the Tabernacle, and the subsequent permanent house or temple built for the God of Israel. Special attention will be given to the artistic motifs unearthed in the ancient synagogues in Israel, structures primarily dateable to the Byzantine period.

Join Federation partner Edlavitch DCJCC for an evening of volunteering to support residents of the DMV on Tuesday, August 17th from 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM. Working in the distribution center is a great way for volunteers to support the Capital Area Food Bank on the front lines of the distribution process. You will help sort and pack donated food items along with other EDCJCC volunteers.
- Small Things Matter's Kokua Foods Program
Help make cookies and other baked treats to share with food insecure families in the community.
- School Supply Drives in Northern VA
