CARES Program Applications Open

Applications are now open for our CARES Program, which provides associate professors with dedicated time to advance their scholarship toward promotion to full professor. The award offers a semester of teaching release and reduced service, along with funding to support research and course replacement. Two awards will be granted this year, for Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.

Please submit all materials to cares@ku.edu by Oct. 31.

The College Dean's Office is in the final planning stages for our Staff Appreciation week, Oct. 12 - 14. Please use the link below to see the schedule of events for the week. This year's activities include a happy
hour with trivia, free professional head shots, a community outreach opportunity, and more! We will continue to update the website as we finalize all events. In the meantime, mark your calendars and get excited!

Deans OER Grant Initiative

The Office of the Provost has approved an initiative developed by the Dean's Council with the support of KU Libraries to incentivize the adoption of OER in high enrolling courses, particularly those with high rates of DFW (grades of D & F, and withdrawals) and costly course materials. Base levels of $5,000 (for individual proposals) and $10,000 (for team proposals) may be provided to qualifying courses. An additional incentive of $5 per student in a single semester (capped at $1000 or 200 students) is available.

The Libraries are now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 academic year. Review of the applications will begin on Nov. 4. This initiative enjoys the support of members of the College Dean’s Office, Jayhawk Academic Advising, and the Office of Academic Programs and Experiential Learning. We anticipate funding 2-3 courses per fall and spring semester over a three-year period. Additional details are available on the Deans’ OER Initiative site.

Call for Applications - Character Development at KU

KU faculty are invited to apply to participate in a grant-funded project: “Character Development at the University of Kansas: The IRISE Virtues Initiative.” The goal is to increase faculty support for teaching IRISE virtues and thereby contributing to the character development of KU students.

Now Accepting Proposals: The First-Year Seminar Program

First-Year Seminar instructors introduce KU’s newest students to their discipline through innovative, relationship-based teaching practices. By teaching a First-Year Seminar, you’ll teach the topics you’re excited about and engage in a learning community with fellow instructors. To be eligible for the program, courses must satisfy the KU Core 34 US Culture or Global Culture goal. Register for an upcoming information session today.

Faculty Luncheons

The College Dean's Office is hosting another year of faculty luncheons. These casual luncheons are intended to provide faculty with a chance to mingle with College leadership, collaborate on ideas or just share in conversations with your peers.

The first luncheon is today, Monday, Sept. 14 in the Big 12 Room of the Kansas Union and will be hosted by Executive Dean Jen Roberts.

Come to as many as you'd like and please RSVP to future lunches for catering purposes. All luncheons will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Locations will be announced in the future, please see the full schedule below.

Marketing Your Major: Introducing the Major Maps + Career Pathways Guide

Recruiting and retaining students in your major is always a challenge, but could it be easier? Yes, especially when you connect your academic experiences with key career milestones, internship opportunities, and alumni career outcomes—and all in one handy document.

Join us for the launch of Major Maps + Career Pathways, a customizable guide that you can use to orient students to your major and career outcomes. During this interactive session, faculty will review examples from College majors, get customized career and alumni data, and begin building a draft map for your own program. This event is co-sponsored by the College and the University Career Center. Lunch will be provided. RSVP required.
