The conference will feature keynote speaker Marc Watkins, co-author of "The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching," along with sessions exploring AI and the evolving landscape of teaching and learning.

Iona faculty are also invited to a special session with Watkins at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, in the Gabelli Center for Teaching & Learning. RSVP for the faculty session here.

Iona University’s LaPenta School of Business will host the 25th International Business and Economy Conference (IBEC) on January 7–8, 2027. This year’s theme is “Global Economic Transformation in a New Era: Strategies for Resilience, Innovation, and Sustainable Growth.”

Iona students and professors are encouraged to get involved by presenting their research or participating in the conference. The submission deadline is September 30.

Full papers and extended abstracts are being accepted on topics related to finance and economics, management and marketing, accounting and sustainability, entrepreneurship, business analytics, information systems, and other areas of global business.

Join the Office of Mission & Ministry and the Deignan Institute for Earth & Spirit for the 2026 Br. William Cornelia Lecture. This lecture celebrates the life of Br. William B. Cornelia, Iona’s first president, by inviting a guest speaker who embodies Iona’s caring academic community and mission of service and advocacy, as inspired by the legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers.

The 2026 Cornelia Lecturer is Karen Washington. Karen is a farmer, food justice activist and community leader whose work centers on land, food sovereignty and the power of communities to nourish themselves. In 2010, Karen co-founded Black Urban Growers, an organization that supports Black growers in rural and urban settings. For decades, she has been at the forefront of efforts to transform food systems by advocating for equitable access to land, healthy food and the knowledge required to grow it.

Washington’s work and leadership have been widely recognized by numerous organizations. In 2021, Washington was named to Forbes’ “50 Over 50” list. In 2023, Washington was the co-recipient of the James Beard Humanitarian Award and was named a “Food Hero” by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

As the United States reflects on the 250th anniversary of independence, the Institute for Thomas Paine Studies’ Seventh Biannual Conference will explore how Indigenous nations, Bacon’s Rebellion and other histories of resistance shaped ideas about revolution and independence before 1776. “America’s ‘First Revolution’” will be a fully hybrid program featuring panels that examine the evolving meanings of rebellion, revolution and independence. The conference is free and open to the public.

The Accessibility Services Office invites Iona faculty to a special presentation featuring Dr. Jane Thierfeld Brown, a nationally recognized expert in autism, disability services and college transition support. With more than 40 years of experience in the field, Dr. Brown brings a wealth of knowledge and practical insight into supporting autistic students as they navigate the college environment. She is a former assistant clinical professor at the Yale Child Study Center and former director of student services at the University of Connecticut School of Law and is the coauthor of several influential books on autism and college success. This engaging presentation will offer faculty valuable perspectives and practical strategies for supporting autistic students and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
