Happy New Year! It is exciting that we are starting a new year. I am hopeful that we will be able to come together in person more often this year. I have a couple updates to share.
First, we have the January county 4-H At Home Project Kits available after Jan. 20th for those who registered for one. Due to staff changes, we will not be offering additional project kits at this time.
Second, some of you may have heard that the Dodge County Administration Building is open to the public. I would like to clarify some details from the County Administrator. The County Building's Auditorium room may be scheduled for non-government groups to use during daytime and evening hours. However, government committee meetings, government and department-related business, and County Board meeting overflow (public seating) in the Auditorium take precedence over any other scheduled meeting. Non-government related meetings may be bumped from the schedule if the County Administrator deems it. The room setup must not be re-arranged – the tables, microphones, and chairs are to remain in its current setup. Furniture may not be moved around and the room may not be divided. The room is setup with physical distancing COVID protocols encouraged (1 chair per table). Use of the room is limited to 25 persons per the County Administrator.
Therefore, Dodge County 4-H will still be looking for other locations for programs or limiting size.
Please feel free to contact me with questions, and I look forward to a great 2022!

4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl, Skillathon, & Meats Judging Contest!
What are the contests? These are three different contests all about livestock where you can use your knowledge about the animal species (beef, sheep, swine, meat goat) and the industry.
Livestock Quiz Bowl: Livestock Bowl is a quiz competition where all the questions are about beef, sheep, swine, and meat goat topics. Students use a buzzer to answer the questions (similar to the game show Jeopardy). Teams compete in a double elimination format by giving oral answers to questions posed by a moderator. Each match has both an individual and toss-up question round. The top team earns the opportunity to compete at the national competition. Livestock Skill-a-thon: Everything you know about raising your animal adds up to so much knowledge of the species and the industry. The Skill-a-thon contest will help you challenge you to share that information through a written quiz and learning stations such as breed identification, feed identification, equipment identification as well as some team activities such as demonstrating evaluation skills. The top team earns the opportunity to compete at the national competition. Meats Judging Contest: Have you been to your local meat market or grocery store lately and think you could choose the best cut of meat out of the case? Have you ever watched a live animal contest and thought you could choose what animals would provide the best meat products? This is your opportunity to put those skills to work. This contest tests the knowledge of youth in the placement of carcass and retail cut classes, carcass grading, retail cut identification, and a quiz. Top teams earn the opportunity to compete at regional and national competitions.
