The Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics will host its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day January 28 in the Schaefer Center.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a day reserved to reflect on the evolution of women in sports, with the purpose of encouraging young athletes to explore and learn about the rich history that has been created by female athletes over the last several decades.
The day brings girls and boys from several different communities together to explore and learn about the fundamentals of a number of different sports, specifically ones that are played at Stevens.
This year's event is open to girls and boys from third to eighth grade (must be at least eight-years-old), and provides instruction and games in sports such as softball, volleyball, field hockey, and lacrosse. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the day scheduled to conclude at 1 p.m. Parents and/or guardians must be present at pick up and drop off, and participants should come in active sportswear attire.
Following the morning activity sessions, a pizza lunch will be served in the lobby of the Schaefer Athletic Center.
In addition to the day's activities, all are welcome and encouraged to attend the Stevens women's basketball game against Utica starting at 2 p.m. The game will be free of charge to all participants with a suggested donation to support Stevens athletics, and the team will be hosting a meet-and-greet with the players to include an autograph signing as well as a short tour of the women's basketball facilities immediately following the game.
Visit this link to register online prior to the event, although registration will also be available on site. Please contact head women's field hockey coach Meredith Spencer-Blaetz (mspence3@stevens.edu) with any questions or concerns.
