What difference do our prayers really make? One Jewish Rabbi prayed at the Wailing Wall every day in Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “How does that feel to pray in Jerusalem at the wall of the Temple?” He answered, tongue in cheek, “Like I’m talking to a wall.” Sometimes, the heavens can feel like stone when we pray. What really happens when we pray?
In John’s vision of heaven the prayers of God’s people are kept in bowls. After the seventh seal was opened there was silence and the seven angels took their trumpets. But the eight angel is most interesting. He came to the altar with a golden censer and offer the prayers of God’s people before the throne of God. The prayers went up before God. Then the angel flung fire on the earth.
When we pray, we are flinging the fire! God chooses to respond to the prayers of his people. God hears our words and then he acts. So pray today like God himself is hearing you. He hears. And you are not talking to a wall!
