730 days. 17,520 hours. Over 1 million minutes. Time can stand still, especially if you feel forgotten. Do you ever feel forgotten? How long has it been?
Joseph had hoped that the cupbearer would share his predicament with Pharaoh. But as time continued to pass, he might have felt like he had been forgotten by the cupbearer. Did he ever wonder if God had forgotten him? Was Joseph angry? How did he think about his situation?
Two years after the cupbearer promised to share Joseph’s plight, the Pharaoh went to sleep in his palace. First seven cows. Fat cows. Skinny cows. Skinny cows ate the fat cows. Pharaoh awakened. What in the world? Back asleep. Seven kernels of grain. Healthy grain. Sparse grain. Sparse swallows healthy. Awake.
Pharaohs had people to do what they needed. He asked his most likely dream interpreters to explain his two dreams. They had nothing. When the Pharaoh was distressed, the whole palace knew. The cupbearer heard about the dreams. Dreams. Wait a minute. Who was that guy in the prison?
God never forgot Joseph. Right on GST, God’s standard time, he gave the Pharaoh the right dreams at the right time. God was always working for Joseph. Joseph’s God is our God, too. He has not forgotten you. Paul later told the beleaguered believers in Rome: “And we know that in all things, God is working for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Joseph loved God. Do we? He will not waste a moment of our pain. He is working.
