I am a very poor ophthalmologist! A friend of mine reminded me that eyes are way too precious to treat without the help of an expert. So I go to an excellent eye doctor. I still have almost perfect distance vision, but my vision up close is getting worse, fast. I’ve tried contacts and very cheap glasses from the store. I buy cheap glasses because I have lost them and destroyed them with astonishing regularity. It’s time to go back and get more help.
Jesus was really good with sight. All of the gospel writers tell us about how he gave sight to the blind. John tells the longest story. Jesus healed a man born blind. Unfortunately, from the perspective of the Pharisees, Jesus healed him on the wrong day of the week. Jesus said from the start, my Father is working and I want to do his work while it is still day because I am the Light of the world. The man went through a progressive healing. First Jesus applied mud and then sent him to the pool which means “sent.” He obeyed and all of Jerusalem broke loose against him. Interestingly, the man grew in spiritual sight as well as his vision of Jesus became more acute. In the end, he receives his spiritual sight by believing.
Then Jesus said, “I make some people see, but others don’t want to see.” Kenny Rogers sang, “There’s no one blinder than he who just won’t see.” To this day, people cover their eyes to stay in the darkness about Jesus. Let’s live in the Light today. Open our eyes so that we may see Jesus and through him see all things differently!
