Want to get a heads up BEFORE your car gets towed? Now you can thanks to SFMTA’s new Text-Before-Tow Program!
That’s great news since getting towed in San Francisco can cost over $500. The high costs can hit people hard, especially people who are struggling to get by.
Watch our new 40-second video on the program here. And you can sign up for the program here: SFMTA.com/TextBeforeTow
People who sign up for the Text-Before-Tow Program will receive a text when they’re about to be towed for the following violations:
- Parked for more than 72 hours
- Blocking a driveway
- Construction zone
- Temporary no-parking zone
If you move your vehicle before the tow truck gets there, you WON’T have to pay the tow fine. However, you WILL still need to pay the underlying parking ticket.
The Text-Before-Tow Program was developed in response to recommendations to the SFMTA from the End Poverty Tows coalition. The SFMTA has also created significant discounts on tows, boots, and parking tickets for people with low incomes and people experiencing homelessness.
Learn more about these discounts here, and please spread the word to people who might benefit from them.
Thank you to our partners at the SFMTA and in community organizations for continuing to work with us to advance financial justice and reforms to fines and fees.
Yours in Financial Justice,
Anne, Michelle, and Shawn
