Acts 4:11-13
Jesus is“‘the stone you builders rejected,
    which has become the cornerstone.’
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
New International Version (NIV)
Where do we find confidence?  Peter and John had been fishermen when Jesus found them.  Three years walking with him changed them.  As Jesus’ apprentices they learned the mighty power of God.  He commissioned them with his authority as he ascended into the heavens.  What did they do with his authority?  They boldly proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom of God leading others to trust Christ also.

The same people who crucified Jesus were still in Jerusalem.  Every time the disciples glorified Jesus as Lord, the crucifiers cringed.  They had no way to account for the confidence and boldness of the uneducated and untrained disciples except for one thing:  they had been with Jesus.  To this day, living life conscious of the presence of Christ and his Spirit creates confidence.  If we believe there is “salvation in no one else,” that Jesus alone saves and strengthens his people, we must say something.

After deliberating the Sanhedrin came up with the solution:  we’ll ask them to stop talking about Jesus.  Peter and John said, “Whatever we do, we can’t stop” (4:20).  Later they will say, “We must obey God rather than men” (5:29).  Disciples of Jesus can never stop talking about Jesus because of all he has done for us.  To whom are we talking today?  What are we saying?   Start with Jesus.

Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for saving us and transforming us by your grace.  Give us boldness and confidence in you and your work in our lives.  Make us kind to others as you have been kind to us.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
