Lindsey is a thirty-one-year-old mom of three. Raised in South Boston, she moved to Quincy when she was thirteen years old. In her sophomore year of high school, she became pregnant with her first son. Lindsey then attended both Quincy High School and Bethany’s Teen Mother Program in Quincy, graduating from both programs in June of 2010. In 2014, after moving in and out of homeless shelters, she obtained an apartment in the Germantown neighborhood of Quincy with her children.
As a single mother, Lindsey has struggled in numerous ways: financially, emotionally, and mentally. While she was struggling to feed her children, Lindsey was introduced to the South Shore YMCA Germantown Neighborhood Center & Food Pantry. Since then, Lindsey and her children have been a part of our Y family. Every year she has been grateful for assistance through our Hope for the Holidays program and SSYMCA Food Pantry to help provide for her family.
Since moving to Germantown, Lindsey has continuously worked through very hard times. Regardless of all the struggles and extremely hard times she encountered, she never stopped pushing toward her goal of going to nursing school.
In 2019, Lindsey started applying to nursing schools. She then received a letter from her first chosen college to find out she was accepted into their program. At this point, Lindsey was a full-time nursing student with three young children. The support she received from the Germantown Neighborhood Center and food pantry helped her stay afloat during her nursing program, and in 2023 she graduated with a bachelor’s in nursing. She is now working towards her master’s degree.
Watching Lindsey persevere and grow since she first moved to the Germantown neighborhood has been an honor. She is a hardworking, caring person who has pushed through adversity to meet her goals. Her story is an example of how the work we do at the Y and our Germantown Neighborhood Center helps local families work toward their dreams.
