Heart Healthy Tips
Â
As we find ourselves amid winter, February brings heart health to the center stage. It’s not just a male targeted approach anymore as more and more women find themselves in the grip of heart disease and its best friend diabetes. Targeted nutritional supplements merit our attention when focusing on preventative heart health. By far, my favorite is the often-deficient mineral magnesium. It comes in many forms or chelates (“key lates”) and is best to work with a knowledgeable practitioner when selecting the best one for you. Glycinate, taurate, citrate & malate are by far the most common with daily recommended dosage ranges of 300-400mg.
Â
Other helpers that I feel are very important include Omega 3 Fatty Acids for their broad-spectrum anti-inflammatory roles and CoQ10 for its role in promoting optimal energy production within our heart cells. Newer ingredient targets like grape seed extract, green seaweed extract, & L-Citrulline have also shown promise for their ability to improve vascular elasticity and promote blood flow through release of nitric oxide. Perhaps next month we will embark on a journey that focuses on improving blood sugar, insulin, and related inflammatory markers such as uric acid.Â
Â
Until we meet again, yours in health,
Dr. Mike.

5 Signs Your Student is Ready for More Advanced Math
Â
Usually when we think of our kids needing help with math, we think in terms of a struggle with the concepts. But equally concerning is when your child’s progress stalls because their skill level is above the rest of the class and they’re in need of more advanced math lessons. This makes it difficult to stay competitive with their high-performing peers as well. A student with an aptitude for math should never be held back from excelling at their own pace, yet it isn’t always easy to know when this is the case. Here are some indicators to look for: READ MORE
