Springing forth
Ahh, the sights and sounds of ILR in the springtime: scurrying to class amongst the daffodils, purple lanyards, new and familiar faces, friendly greetings, hearty laughter, and, of course, abundant learning.
Whether you're in the classroom, auditorium, or gym; outside on the trails or pickleball court; online joining us virtually from across the county or country; a presenter, student, or host; we're so happy you've invested your time into the joys of lifelong learning this semester. Your participation inspires and energizes us.
Spring semester is nearing its midpoint with classes, tours, and events all in motion. If you missed the opportunity to join us this spring and aren't yet receiving our catalog, request a copy and make plans to join us this fall, October 2 through November 3.
On our website's home page, you'll find our current classes and events, instructor bios, FAQs, and a wealth of information.

Finish strong

Your instructors, lecturers, and class hosts are all volunteers. Please respect their time by making it a priority to attend all remaining sessions of your spring classes. You'll be glad you did!

Shutterbugs unite
Have you taken any photos in class? If not, snap a couple and share them with ILR. We can't be everywhere, so we love seeing what you're seeing.

I scream, you scream... You know the rest!
Our ILR End-of-Semester Annual Meeting and Ice Cream Social will be held on Friday, May 5, 2pm, at The Knolls of Oxford.
With humble gratitude, we announce that the estate of Mary Kay Fischer (managed by daughter Nan Fischer) has generously offered to sponsor this event. We're proud to accept this sponsorship and honor Mary Kay's memory in a fun and festive way. As Nan put it, "Mary Kay LOVED ice cream."
There's still time to choose your favorite Graeter's flavor and join us. Contact the ILR office to register for this event.

Making headlines

ICRC-TV cable talk show host Shelly Abrams recently caught up with ILR Program Manager Judy Macke and ILR instructor Bob Viney for a Feelin' Good chat about all that's happening in ILR this spring and beyond.
With a passion for lifelong learning in general and ILR in particular, our staff, instructors, volunteers, and students are excited to share their good news. Follow their lead, and you too can boost your retirement to greater heights and fulfillment.

Join us by submitting your ILR Course Proposal Form by May 8.
Thanks to our sponsor! Tour spots still available
ILR continues to deliver on its mission due to the generous support of our many individual donors and businesses who offer their financial support as sponsors and/or advertisers. Berkeley Square is once again sponsoring ILR's spring semester and will be hosting a tour on Friday, April 21, to introduce our members and non-members to their beautiful facilities. See catalog page 8 for complete details. Spots for this tour are still available. Call or email the ILR office to secure yours.
Since 1997, we have focused on making a positive difference in the lives of the lifelong learners of our community. We trust you'll agree that we are fulfilling our mission in a significant way.

The Ukraine Invasion, One Year On: Stories from the Front

When U.S. Army Brigadier General Mark Arnold (Ret.) of Columbus heard Russia was planning to invade Ukraine last year, he knew immediately he wanted to help.
Arnold will be sharing his first-hand observations of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and his perspective on how a just and lasting peace in the region may be achieved. He’ll also reflect on the U.S.'s role in the conflict and how the U.S. can best support Ukrainian democracy in the years ahead. Thursday, April 13, 7-9 p.m., Harry T. Wilks Conference Center, Miami Hamilton Campus, 1601 University Blvd., Hamilton. Admission is free. No RSVP is required. More info.

A doubleheader and then some
Matthew Smith, Director of Public Programming at Miami University Regionals, gives us a rare doubleheader in this edition of his The Extraordinary Times blog. He first caught up with David W. Blight Sterling, Professor of History at Yale and author of Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom. Blight was the John E. Dolibois History Prize lecturer at Miami Hamilton this week! Next up, local historian extraordinaire Rich Piland, former Miami professor and author of Legendary Locals of Hamilton, sat down to share his story.
Hear more from Matthew Smith, in person, when he joins our Midday Lecture Series on April 24, speaking on Exploring 19th Century Cincinnati's Religious Landscape.

A reading by Grace Talusan
Enjoy a reading by award-winning author Grace Talusan from her critically acclaimed memoir, The Body Papers, a New York Times Editors’ Choice selection. The book explores the fraught contours of her life as a Filipino immigrant and survivor of cancer and childhood abuse. Wednesday, April 12, 6 pm, 142 Johnston Hall, Middletown campus.
