Addison Club Kids Kick Off Spring Adventure
This month, a group of 5th graders from our Addison Center had a chance to experience nature first-hand. Groups lead by Branch Manager, Diana Garcia, had a chance to trek through the beautiful steps and trails of the Ventura Botanic Garden. For many of the kids, this was their first time visiting, despite living in Ventura or living only blocks away. Upon arrival, many of the kids were amazed by the variety of plant life, including chaparral and lupines. In the midst of the excitement of the moment, the kids made a keen observation that the recent abundance of rain must have played a big role in the amount of beautiful flowers that were present. They also had a chance to learn about the emergence of the unusual California wildflower bloom, which they were excited to know could be seen from space. One of our kids put it best, “how cool it was to be up here experiencing nature all around us !!” In addition, some high points included plant identification and learning about different species indigenous to California. Beyond the natural beauty of the Garden, everyone also had the chance to eat lunch together against the scenic Ventura cityscape and enjoy the city from a little bit of a different vantage point.
In other news, Addison kids also had a chance to get some sun and sea breeze at Marina Beach. The beach known for its marooned pirate ship, zip line and miles of park and sand, made it a favorite destination for many of the kids. Among those who participated, many had also mentioned that they had never been to the beach before. They really enjoyed playing in the sand and watching the waves as they crackled against the shoreline. What a great way to kick off the warmer seasons!!
