Welcome or welcome back! We hope you had a restful and enriching summer. As we begin a new academic year, the Pre-Health Advising Team is excited to support you on your journey toward a career in the health professions.

As you settle into a new semester, remember that success in the pre-health journey is more than gaining hours. The intention behind how you choose to spend your time should be reflected in what you learn, what impacts you, and what impact you have on others. The experiences you pursue, the relationships you build, and the competencies you develop all have greater value when they align with your personal goals, interests, and values. Rather than focusing solely on checking boxes, take time to reflect on why you are pursuing opportunities and what you are gaining.

United Health Foundation Scholarship Program

All applications for the United Health Foundation's Health Care Scholars United (HCSU) Single-Year Scholarship Program are now being accepted. 

This Fall, the United Health Foundation will award up to 325 scholarships of $3,200 each. Applications will be accepted until 3:00 pm CT on September 18.

To apply, students must:

Be pursuing a certification or degree in a clinical health career. Priority will be given to students seeking careers in pharmacy, rural health, behavioral health, maternal health, or primary care.

Be enrolled as of November 2026 as a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited in-person or virtual program in the United States.

Be on track to graduate by August 31, 2027.

Demonstrate financial need.

Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.

Please Note: Previous recipients of a United Health Foundation scholarship award are not eligible.

Pathway to PT Virtual Fair

Pathway to Physical Therapy, a virtual engagement opportunity designed to support and empower participants exploring a future in the field, is on Wednesday, Sept. 9th from 12pm - 6pm ET. 

Whether you are just beginning your undergraduate journey or preparing to apply during the current Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) cycle, this event offers valuable guidance and insight into the path toward a career in physical therapy. Through a series of sessions and chat rooms, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the application process, academic expectations, and the student experience within physical therapy programs. Students will also learn about GRE preparation, explore key financial considerations, and connect directly with physical therapy programs, faculty, and current students.

NursingCAS Application Now OPEN

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is excited to announce that the 2026-2027 NursingCAS Application Cycle is now open! Within the new cycle, applicants can find nursing programs that begin in Summer 2027, Fall 2027, Winter 2028, and Spring 2028. Prospective nursing students are encouraged to check back often to explore new programs that go live every week.

Please note that NursingCAS manages overlapping cycles. The 2025-2026 NursingCAS Application Cycle will remain open through January 28, 2028. This cycle includes programs starting in Summer 2026, Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027.

We encourage you to attend our Preparing and Strengthening Your NursingCAS Application webinar on Tuesday, September 22 at 2 pm ET. During the webinar, our staff will lead a walkthrough of the application, provide resources, and answer frequently asked questions. 

In addition to the new application cycle, we want to make sure you are aware of these resources:

NursingCAS Applicant Help Center: This resource provides application instructions and answers to common questions.

NursingCAS Customer Service: Available via chat within the application, by email at support@nursingcas.myliaision.com, and by phone at 617-612-2880. Support is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm ET.

Podiatric Medicine Application Now OPEN

Applicants may now begin applying to the schools and colleges of podiatric medicine for the 2027 entering class by accessing AACPMAS | Applicant Login Page. All re-applicants may also choose to pull selected data over into the new cycle.

Please visit both Explore Pod Med and Discoverpodiatry.org to find the information about applying, why to pursue the profession and what makes Podiatric Medicine such a great profession.

Also, for the 2026-2027 AACPMAS cycle we are once again providing a fee waiver program. Beginning this cycle, students may apply for the Fee Waiver Program through AACPMAS for a fee waiver of $300, which covers their initial application fee of $225 and one additional designation of $75. Please review the AACPMAS policies for qualifications and additional information. 

IHA National Pre-Med Health Literacy Conference

Students preparing for medicine spend years building scientific knowledge, but they may have fewer opportunities to develop the communication and health literacy skills that help patients feel understood, informed, and involved in their care. 

That's why IHA is bringing together pre-med students, medical students, physicians, and health literacy leaders for a free virtual conference focused on skills students can begin developing before medical school. Students will also be encouraged to recognize strong health literacy practices and carry those ideas with them into medical school and future patient care.

Early Neurosciences Development (END) Program | Brain and Spine Group

The Brain and Spine Group is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing mentorship and education in neuroscience-related fields. It is currently accepting applications for its Early Neurosciences Development (END) Program, a national mentorship initiative designed for undergraduate students interested in medicine and neuroscience-related careers, such as neurology, neurosurgery, neuroscience research, and more.

The program connects students with mentors and offers early exposure to neuroanatomy, clinical concepts, and research in neuroscience-related fields. In addition to academic enrichment, participants gain valuable skills such as scientific literacy, professional communication, and early clinical insight. The END program also supports students in planning their careers and preparing strong applications for graduate and professional schools, making it an ideal opportunity for those exploring pathways in medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, and related fields.

2027 MCAT Registration Opening  

Registration for the full 2027 MCAT testing season will open Oct. 20-22, by testing center location. Visit our website for early information about opening day, tips to navigate registration, and more. We will post more detailed information about available test dates on opening day in the coming weeks. Sign up for updates to receive future announcements on registration and the testing year.    
  
The MCAT Registration System will remain open for scheduling after opening day for examinees who are not yet ready to schedule their exam.  
  
Here are a few things you can do now if you plan on registering for your exam on opening day:    

Register for the MCAT Testing Year Update Webinar for Examinees: Join us Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. ET to learn about updates to the 2027 MCAT testing year and registration process. Register today. This webinar will be recorded and distributed via email to registrants.  

Apply for Fee Assistance: If you are interested in applying to the AAMC Fee Assistance Program, please allow at least ten business days for your application to be reviewed before you register. Fee Assistance Program benefits are not retroactive, which means you must be approved before you register for the MCAT exam. Learn more about the AAMC Fee Assistance Program benefits and eligibility requirements.

FLXS National Surgery Symposium for Pre-Health Students

You are invited to the 6th annual Future Leaders in Surgery Symposium (FLXS), a national virtual symposium series offering undergraduate students the chance to explore the exciting fields of orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery, and otolaryngology.

FLXS was created to expand access to surgical education and mentorship for students of all backgrounds.
