Romans 5:8-10
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
New International Version (NIV)
“Don’t tell me you love me . . . show me.”  How do we know that God really loves us?  “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so . . .”  But is there anything more tangible?  There is.

Paul told the believers in Rome that “God demonstrates his love in this:  while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  God did not decide to love us when we were at our best.  It was when we were at our worst that he loved us.

Do we believe that God really loves us?  Sky Jethani tells about a Bible study with college students in which students raised in Christian homes and Bible preaching churches revealed that they believed that God was primarily deeply disappointed with them.  Where did they get that impression?  Desmond Tutu of South Africa called this his favorite verse in the Bible.  Why?  He answered, “We think we have to impress God so that God could love us. But he says, "No, you are loved already, even at your worst."

Again the message of the gospel is not:  do good and God will love you more.  J. D. Greear says, “There is nothing we can do to make God love us more.  There is no sin we commit that makes him love us less.”  Jesus didn’t just talk about love.  He showed us on the cross!  Now that we know we are loved, let’s do all the good that God prepared in advance for us to do.
Pray with me:
Father, thank you that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.  Help us to believe your unconditional love.  Steeped in grace let us share your grace with others.  Help us to do all the good we can find to do today, knowing that we are fully loved in Christ.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
