Who is the worst sinner of all time?
Who is the worst sinner of all time?

1 Timothy 1:15-17
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.  But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
New International Version (NIV)
Who is the worst sinner of all time?  Names like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, and Saddam Hussein come to mind.  Who can forget Judas Iscariot?  He has to be high on the list.  Without these verses, would any of us put the Apostle Paul on that list?   Paul put himself at the top because he knew what he used to do.  He had hounded Christians to death until Christ arrested him on the road to Damascus.

Good news:  Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  Jesus himself said, “Go and learn what this means.  I desire mercy and not sacrifice.  I have not come into the world to save the righteous, but sinners.”   In fact, Jesus chose Paul to show that he can save any one and everyone who believes and receives eternal life.

Doesn’t this make you want to sing?  Paul burst out in doxology to his glorious eternal, immortal invisible King, the only God.  All the glory and honor go to him.  And we sing, “Jesus, what a friend for sinners . . .”  There is room at the cross for us.  I don’t know where you and I rank in the list of all time sinners.  Praise God we have a once and for all time Savior.  John Newton said, “There are two things I know for sure:  I am a great sinner and Jesus Christ is a great Savior.”
Pray with me:
Great Savior, you alone know our thoughts, impulses and actions.  Nothing in our lives is hidden from you.  We come to you today without pretense.  As if we could ever deceive you.  You desire truth from our hearts.  “What can be done for old hearts like mine?  Soften them up with oil and wine.  The oil is you, your Spirit of love. Please wash us anew in the wine of your blood.”  In the saving name of Jesus we pray.  Amen.
