Acts 10:19-22
While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you.  So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”

New International Version (NIV)
Do you know your prejudices?  Most of us have drawn impressions of others who are different.  We speak and act out of what we think we know.

God prepares us as he removes our prejudices.  Before God called Peter to go to the house of Cornelius he gave him a strange vision of animals forbidden for food.  “Take and eat,” said the voice.  “Never,” Peter answered.

As a disciple of Jesus, Peter has already been committed by God for his purpose.  God sent word to Cornelius to go get Peter.  When Peter obeyed, the Gospel broke through another barrier.

Ask God to show you any prejudice you feel toward others.  As he reveals the truth, confess, repent and be forgiven.  Then watch for opportunities to love those who are different from you.

Years ago I read a book called Same Kind of Different as Me.  A wealthy art dealer in Fort Worth came to know and love a homeless man of a different ethnicity.  Both of them were blessed as they learned to love.  It could happen to us today.  God who loves all people has pre-committed us to love others.  Will we obey?
Pray with me:
Gracious Father, the whole earth is full of your glorious love.  Thank you for loving us and letting us love your world with you.  Heal us of our prejudices.  Let us harbor them no more.  Show us someone to love today.  We will obey — do what you say.  Call us today.  We will obey.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
Join us in memorizing the Word.  Scripture for this week:
Matthew 5:13-14
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.   You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Our 2020 Every Day with Jesus readings will follow the Foundations New Testament reading plan.  Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy at REPLICATE.ORG
We would love for you to join us as we read the New Testament through this year, five chapters a week.  In addition I will continue my long-standing practice of reading one Psalm a day through the year.  Use Robby Gallaty’s H. E. A. R. plan to study each chapter (also found at REPLICATE.ORG). Highlight verses which speak to you, explain what they mean in your own words in a journal, apply them to your own life, then respond by doing what God tells you to do.
Joyfully,
Duane
