Community That Lasts
“The definition of community is a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. Being part of YLC provides me with a strong sense of fellowship with the students that I have led and with the adults that I now serve with on Committee. And the common goal is providing college students with a strong community where they feel comfortable and safe to learn more about what it looks like to have a personal relationship with Jesus.”
Our youngest son was part of the initial College Leadership Program (CLP) that Tami and Bill Ostlund began in the early 2000’s, and both of our sons were Young Life kids through jr. high and high school. We are Young Life donors, I have been a YL College leader, and currently serve on the YL College Committee. Being part of YLC as a leader and committee member has given me the opportunity to give back to the ministry that has had such an important and positive influence in the lives of my own kids.
There is a strong sense of community through Young Life College when students gather together on a weekly basis at Club to have fun and to hear about Jesus. That community is strengthened even further through the gathering of weekly small groups. Several of the students were part of my small group for multiple years, and it was such a gift to see God at work in their lives during that time.
College students are hungry for community and searching for ways to feed that hunger. Young Life College provides a comfortable and safe community for college students to belong and be fed. The consequences of other less healthy choices to fill that hunger for community results in college students feeling empty and unfulfilled.
