Hi Neighbor!

Remember when we had a fantastic stretch of weather a few weeks back, and then a light rain started on Saturday, right about 5:30 PM? That was exactly the time a young groom got the first look at his beautiful bride as she started her walk down the aisle at their outdoor wedding at The Barn on Bridge. Earlier in the day my phone weather app had lulled me into complacency by changing the menacing rain cloud emoji at 5 PM to a benign cloudy cloud emoji, so I had gone with that and left my umbrella at home and headed to the ceremony with high hopes of vows said in sunshine.

So when the first drops started and then the rain got stronger, it fell on me, and 150 other people including octogenarian grandmothers, bridesmaids with expensive hairstyles, and men in full suits.
You know what happened then? Nothing, and it was the most beautiful expression of why we were all there. We weren’t there to show off our beautiful dresses, or to protect our flat ironed hair, or to stay dry. We were there to witness my niece and her groom, who had dated starting way back in middle school, say their vows and be pronounced man and wife and then celebrate their new life together. In the end, we got to witness a beautiful ceremony with a rainbow after, and then we went on to cheer on heart felt and funny toasts, break out some questionable dance moves, and experience our first traditional Pittsburgh wedding cookie table, all of which I highly recommend. May your moments of celebration be shared with those you love, come rain or come shine.

WEATHER OR NOT!

Mushroom Festival
Friday, September 9th - Sunday, September 11th
101 South Union Street, Kennett Square

A small group of mushroom enthusiasts decided to have a festival to celebrate Kennett Square’s number one cash crop with the hope of raising funds to give as scholarships to local high school students. In 1986 that became a reality as Kennett Square hosted its first Mushroom Festival. It was a one day affair and just one block long. Thirty years later the Festival stretches a mile and features culinary events, growing exhibits, children’s entertainment, and 200 vendors with attendance calculated at up to 100,000 guests. The Mushroom Festival's Grant Program has given $700,000 in grants to local non-profits since 2000. In 2015, 47 organizations received $80,000 in grants from the Mushroom Festival.
