Have you been outside recently? It is beautiful. Flowers! Leaves! Rushing waterfalls! Bright sunlight! Brevard and Transylvania County are spectacular at any season, but there’s something extra special about the time when spring is in full-bloom, and it starts to feel like summer. Big things are coming soon — summer camps, Sliding Rock, loads of sunshine — and you can get a jump on the good times with some of our favorite events this May. Whether it’s toe-tapping music, a fabulous street festival, or maybe a moment to celebrate our veterans, you can have fun in any flavor, at any speed this month in Brevard and Transylvania County. So, if I May, let me invite you to get out there and join us for a great time.

Looking Glass Tour

9am-4pm

Now in its tenth year, this annual road bike tour takes participants through the ultimate cycling sampler of the many terrains and landscapes on and alongside Transylvania County’s finest roads. With chip-timed results, rider support, rest stops and SAG Wagons, riders can anticipate a fantastic spring cycling adventure, whether 55, 90, and 105 miles, and spectators can celebrate alongside with an on-site food truck.

Annual Upper French Broad Clean-Up

Headwaters Outfitters
Saturday, May 20
9am-3pm

Get on board with some of the coolest volunteers around to take out Headwaters canoes and pick up litter in and alongside one of the oldest rivers in the world. Participants will be supplied with lifejackets, paddles, garbage bags, and a complimentary breakfast and lunch in exchange for doing their part to take care of one of our most precious natural resources. Bring sturdy gloves, river shoes, and be prepared to get a little dirty.

Epic Tails
White Squirrel Weekend

Downtown Brevard
May 26-28

Prepare to shake your tail at what has been called one of the best live music festivals in the south. Check out a variety of performers representing a diversity of genres, including beloved rock band Jupiter Coyote, as well as arts, crafts, delicious food, local brews, and an array of activities to delight white squirrel fans of all ages.

And stick around to celebrate our heroes! Following White Squirrel Weekend, the annual Community Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at 11am on Monday, May 29 on the Transylvania County Courthouse lawn.
