January and February can be rrrrrrrough for Philly peeps. The endless booze and buffets of the holidays are over, but winter’s just getting started. It feels good to hibernate for a bit, but then my mood starts to match the weather. Sometimes I float the idea of moving to Florida to my husband, but who am I kidding? That will never happen.

Heart Disease in Women
EXPERTS SAY WOMEN tend to fear breast cancer and think—even if they have heart-disease risk factors—that a heart attack will happen to someone else. In reality, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States.
Many people don’t realize that the symptoms of heart disease in women can be different than those in men. While some women experience classic angina—chest pain—just as men do, others have nausea or flu-like symptoms instead. That can make it difficult to diagnose.
Researchers are still learning about these differences between men and women. But what’s clear is that women—especially those with known risk factors, such as excess weight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or a history of smoking—should consult their doctors to make sure they’re doing all they can to protect themselves against heart disease.
If you feel you are at risk of heart disease, it could be time to see a cardiologist. Mohamad Taha, MD, is accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, call (610) 290-4270.

An eclipse of the Sun is coming April 8!
Are you ready for April 8? Astronomers across North America are: an eclipse of the Sun is coming!
Solar eclipses are spectacular to witness, interesting to predict, and facilitate some very interesting experiments, but the root cause of them is quite simple: a shadow. In the case of a solar eclipse, the Moon is blocking the Sun from our view. Thus, the shadow of the Moon sweeps over the Earth. Big deal, right? Well, if you happen to be under that shadow, as we will be on April 8, you’re bound to experience a generous helping of weird, observable effects.
