NEW RESEARCH BRIEF
The Impact of DAPA on Children

"The Kids Aren't Alright - But They Could Be" highlights what is often missed in current debates on executive action how DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents) could improve family stability and child wellness. With DAPA implementation temporarily delayed, CSII examines the economic and social impacts of DAPA on an estimated 5.5 million U.S. citizen children.
Key findings include:
  • In the U.S., nearly 3.7 million parents are eligible for DAPA. There are 6.3 million children of DAPA-eligible parents, and 86% (5.5 million) of those children are U.S. citizens.

  • In California, full implementation of DAPA could raise family earnings by nearly $1.6 billion, in aggregate, and lift 40,000 children out of poverty.

POLITICAL PRICE OF DELAY
SacBee Op-Ed on DAPA Brief

"Those who will actually benefit most from the President’s actions are not adult immigrants but children who are U.S. citizens.  And they will likely remember which political leaders are determined to keep their parents in immigration limbo." - Dr. Manuel Pastor
