Message from the President - May 2017
Last Friday, La Playa stadium was the site of our Commencement ceremony. This celebration marked the conclusion of the College’s academic year and a successful point along the educational journey of 1,526 graduating students.  What a proud day it was. I spoke with so many family members who were elated to see their son or daughter graduate from Santa Barbara City College. The whole event was truly a community affair with thousands in attendance.
While this was my 11th commencement as a president and my very first at SBCC, I can tell you, without hesitation, this commencement was the best organized, executed, and celebrated I have ever experienced! I am proud to be part of this wonderful community and celebrate this defining milestone for our students. If you missed the event, you can watch the live stream by clicking here

SBCC Celebrates Retirees
We recently celebrated our retiring staff and faculty. It was a joyous event! We added the collective years of service that the retirees represent.  Collectively, the 10 administrators retiring represent 213 years of service.  That represents significant leadership experience leaving the College. The collective 23 faculty members retiring represent an additional 587 years of service leaving the institution. That represents a huge community of scholars leaving the College. Finally, the 38 classified staff retiring total a whopping 850 years of service to this College!  That represents an extraordinary front line and foundation that will be leaving the College. Altogether, the total years of service for all 71 retirees represents 1,650 years of service to SBCC. We wish them all the best!
