Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
New International Version (NIV)
Who encourages you?  Sooner or later when your courage meter runs low, you will need someone to give you an infusion of courage.  Our son wore this verse on his letter jacket.  I suppose it reminded him when he played against great basketball players that he was not alone.  My mom, who also believed this verse, was born 78 years ago today.  She and dad were married 60 years ago today.  They traveled across the Atlantic with their boys and discovered that God was always with them.

Joshua was following a legend in Moses.  The shoes he was supposed to fill must have seemed as large as the Red Sea.  Right on time God gave him a courage infusion as he led the people into the promised land.  With God’s help he would finally fulfill Moses’s dream for the Israelites.  They would inhabit the land.

I had a front row seat to encouragement recently when our daughter spoke to the admissions director at Baylor.  Casey had her heart set on Baylor so she wrote her story and sent it to the people so they might understand her journey.  When they told her she might be accepted or she might be rejected, she was overcome with emotion.   Then the director smiled at her and said, “Do not be afraid.  I read your story.  God has always had you in his hands.  He will not let you go now or ever.”  Her words were life-giving to our daughter.

May I encourage you with those words today?  God has always had you in his hands.  He will not let you go, now or ever.  Be strong and courageous!
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for the promise of your presence.  Fill us with the courage that belongs to those who know you are with us.  Let us live fearlessly with the confidence that your plan, your provision and your presence will always be enough for us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
