The TVCC Foundation announces the creation of the Dr. Jerry King Endowed Scholarship, a general scholarship that will be awarded to students starting in fall 2023.
The general scholarship covers tuition and fees for full-time students, foundation executive director Emily Heglund said. The only other requirement is that students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in order to keep the scholarship.
“Dr. King wanted to ensure that this scholarship will benefit as many students as possible,” Heglund said. “It’s not targeted at any one field or major. Any full-time students who attends TVCC is eligible to receive this funding.”
TVCC Board of Trustees President Steve Grant and his wife, Claire Grant, founded the scholarship initially and were quickly joined by other donors from the college and foundation boards. Contributions are still being accepted for the scholarship, Heglund said.
“Supporting this scholarship is a wonderful way to honor Dr. King’s legacy at TVCC,” she said. “Because the scholarship will be endowed, the principal funds will be invested, and scholarships will be awarded off the interest these funds generate. The scholarship will live forever at the TVCC Foundation and will benefit students for generations.”
