January 16, 2015
"Sen. Murphy: Downtown Bridgeport is Coming Back"  - Connecticut Post
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and Mayor Bill Finch joined other elected officials and developers on Sunday in Bridgeport to stress the importance of the federal Historic Tax Preservation Incentive Program, which is vital to ongoing improvement efforts in Bridgeport’s downtown.
“Downtown Bridgeport is coming back. It’s the place to be. It’s got access to shops, to services, to transportation, and it’s happening in part because of a federal tax program that is always at risk of being defunded,” said Senator Murphy.
"Bridgeport Begins Wave of Downtown Conversions" - Connecticut Post
Mayor Bill Finch and other officials announced last week the start of work at the Jayson and next-door Newfield buildings, constructed nearly on top of one another. The Newfield building, which fronts on Main Street, has been used over the years as office space and a hotel, with signs of abandoned ground-level stores still visible.
The Jayson-Newfield building, as it will be known, is to be remade into 104 apartments and about 8,000 square feet of ground-level retail space. Eric Anderson, principal at developer Urban Green, which successfully converted the downtown Arcade and Citytrust buildings for modern usage, says the project will be finished by spring of 2016.
It was the first of what the city promises will be many announcements in the neighborhood.

"Bridgeport launches new officer recruitment campaign" - News 12

Bridgeport officials unveiled a new program Wednesday that they say will pave the way for a more diverse police force.
Mayor Bill Finch says the city is launching an aggressive recruitment campaign for those who seek to become police officers. He says this will be accomplished in part by having recruiters appear at local churches and events, where they can communicate with prospective officers in person.
Officials say currently, women and minorities make up 42 percent of the police force. They say they are strongly pushing for more women and minorities to join the force.

"U.S. Senator Blumenthal Expresses Industry Support in Visit to FuelCell Energy" - CNN Money

United States Senator Richard Blumenthal FuelCell Energy, Inc.'s North American manufacturing facility in Torrington, Connecticut, where he expressed his support for Federal programs that promote the adoption of clean power generation in a manner that fosters domestic job creation.
"Connecticut is the fuel cell capital of the world, with companies like FuelCell Energy leading the way. Key tax incentives like the Investment Tax Credit make it possible for local companies like FuelCell Energy to produce ultra-clean and efficient energy that can compete with outdated and dirty technologies. Congress needs to get out of the unfortunate habit of governing by crisis. We need to act now—not at the last minute—to provide companies the certainty they need to succeed," said Senator Richard Blumenthal.
Earlier this month, Senator Blumenthal expressed his support for extending energy tax credits at the future site of a utility owned renewable energy park consisting of a FuelCell Energy power plant and a solar array in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Bridgeport Mayor Finch also spoke, explaining how clean distributed power generation supports economic policy through job creation while improving the environment and enhancing the resiliency of energy supply.
"Special Delivery in Bridgeport" - WTNH
Firefighters and AMR Medics who helped a mother deliver her son at home, returned to the home to check in on the new family.
Early Friday emergency crews arrived at the home on Lee Avenue to help deliver 8 lb, 13 oz. Ja’Khi.  Mother Tyisha Rodriguez didn’t realize she was in labor until her water broke.  She called 911, and the fire department was first to arrive.  Little Ja’Khi wasn’t going to wait, he was coming into the world on his own time.  Just as the AMR paramedics arrived the baby was entering the world. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the bay’s neck, but emergency crews were able to free the child and help Ja’Khi start breathing.
On Monday the crews returned to the family to make sure they were doing okay.
“We talk a lot about our first responders keeping our kids and families safe in Bridgeport,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “On Friday, they did more than that. They brought a new life into our community. And then they cared enough to come back today to visit their special delivery. As a parent, as mayor and as a father, I can’t thank them enough for what they do every day.”
