Numbers 23:19
God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?

New International Version (NIV)
“A horse is a horse of course of course . . .”  Anybody else remember Mr. Ed, the talking horse.  In this passage about Balaam we find a precedent.  Remember Balaam’s donkey corrected his master out loud?
Balaam was a prophet for hire, employed by the King of Moab to curse Israel.  He knew enough to recognize that he could only say what God told him to say.   His description of God is timeless.  We humans tend to lie.  Our minds may change on the basis of a whim.  Not so with God.  By his very nature God obligates himself to enact his judgments and fulfill his promises.
Is this good news or bad news?  What do you think?  On the one hand, this is really good news if we are walking in the truth:  God will act with integrity, fulfilling his words in consonance with his character.   On the other hand, if we are living a lie, this is really bad news.  God will be God.  And if we choose to flout his love and grace, we will experience the very judgments he promises.  Since this is true, we do not need a horse to tell us what to do.  God already has!
Pray with me:
Father, we know you created us in your image, but we are glad that you are not exactly like us.  We confess that we play fast and loose with the truth.  So many of our good intentions pave the wrong roads we have chosen.  Today we anchor our souls in your eternal verity and integrity. We praise you as the embodiment of truth.  In full view of your loving truth, help us not to live a lie today.  Teach us your truth so that we may tell the truth and live the truth.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
