Do you have to have the last word? There is one in every family. After everybody else speaks, they must put their two cents in. I remember a church business meeting many years ago in a galaxy far, far away. The church looked like it had come to a positive conclusion. Then one last person had to have the last word. They did. It was not good.
We will not have the last word. This place is reserved for the same one who had the first word. The Logos who spoke the world into existence by saying, “Let there be...” will also have the last word in history. Jesus tells us he is coming soon. He is the Alpha, First, and Beginning. But he is also the Omega, the last, and the end.
As the Spirit says, “Come,” those who hear also say, “Come.” Jesus says, “I am coming soon.” We say, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” The last word in the Bible is a good word. It is a benediction. What is the last word? Grace. The grace of the Lord Jesus is with God’s people. The whole story of the Bible is about grace, God’s unmerited favor. You don’t even have to answer. Just receive his grace.
