Family Colouring Day

Join Life In Colour artist Angela Gooliaff for a Family Colouring Day! All colouring supplies and materials will be provided and children of all ages are encouraged to participate. Drop in any time to visit with Angela and colour your own piece with artwork from the exhibition that you can take home. 
Included with museum admission or membership.
Museum Members: the first 20 museum members to arrive for this Family Colouring Day will receive a special gift from the artist! You can pick this up by showing your membership card to our admissions desk when you arrive.

Microscopic Sand Creatures are Way Cool because . . .
Sunday, December 3  | 1:00 - 2:00 pm
Teeming with single-celled protists as well as multi-cellular animals, beach sand is considered one of the most diverse habitats on the planet. Join Sam Huang, former UBC research student, as he takes us through the microscope to explore the amazing diversity and evolutionary adaptations of these tiny sand-dwelling creatures.

Beaty Nocturnal
Thursday, December 21 | 5:00 - 8:30 pm
Come by for a night at the museum! On the third Thursday of every month, the museum will stay open late offering activities until 8:30pm. Admission by donation, all ages welcome. Activities include:
  • Raising Big Blue showing
  • Guided Museum Tour at 7 pm
  • Hands-on activities where you can learn more about specimens in the museum and our current exhibitions.

Marine Parasites are Way Cool because . . .

Parasites are everywhere! We often don’t see them, many people don’t like them, but they are a weird, wonderful, and beautiful part of the natural environment. 

Marine parasites, like all marine organisms, are being exposed to a rapidly changing environment, from global warming to ocean acidification, but how will they respond? Join UBC Postdoctoral Fellow Colin MacLeod, to find out!

Life In Colour
September 16, 2017 - February 18, 2018
Colour your way through nature on a giant mural that showcases ecosystems from BC and around the world. Presented by Hemlock Printers, artist Angela Gooliaff explores keystone species in both the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, employing feminine symbology of peace and wisdom, and story through a giant interactive colouring book mural.

START: Pollinators

December 3, 2017 - May 6, 2018
Science to Art (START) is a travelling museum project that inspires elementary and secondary students to design and create exhibits through intergenerational collaboration with art mentors. Engage with the artwork of over 300 elementary and secondary students as they explore the importance and curious nature of pollinators. Participants created museum exhibits to share their research into local environmental issues and promote positive change in their communities.
