Oregon Students are Struggling in the Classroom: Local Expert Weighs in on Why
“Andy Saultz, the dean of Lewis & Clark's Graduate School of Education believe[s] some of the challenges students encounter is due to how Oregon school districts function…Though schools still have sway in other key areas. Saultz believes if state legislators push school districts to embrace methods that are most effective, according to data, students would have better scores. ‘The challenge is we've centralized our funding system, but we've maintained a lot of the policy choice at the local level, which is what I see as a not very well calibrated structural system,’ Saultz said. Saultz added that he would like to see the state government be more assertive in choosing specific teaching methods.”

Two Washington State teenage climate activists embark on an impulsive motorcycle journey to join a group of oil protesters on the East Coast. As they follow a major pipeline across the country, what began as two young environmentalists’ longing to belong to something greater than themselves gives way to Rain and Zoe discovering that the true danger in this world might just be growing up. This play is a funny, sincere and profoundly moving adventure about the ethics of standing up for what you believe, whatever the cost. This production is designed to simultaneously speak to older and younger generations of activists alike.
