Tech Tip of the Week

From Tim Kresse
TIP: Check out a virtual machine
WHY: Ever wish you had another computer to play with or you could run a PC program on a Mac? Have you longed to learned Linux? If so, then use a virtual machine.
HOW: A virtual machine (VM) is software that lets multiple different operating systems (OSes) run on one physical computer. Miami uses VMs in its data center to run server software for its many ‘back end’ applications and you can use a VM on your personal machine as well. If you use a Mac, you may know about Fusion or Parallels for running Windows software ‘inside’ OS X.
If you want to experiment with your own, try VirtualBox. It is a free virtual machine software that runs on and can host many different OSes.
