Spring registration opens Monday,
March 1st
We've weathered so much over the past 12 months, and the big thaw now upon us signals that we've come nearly full circle to where we started last year.

As we enter another season, the pandemic continues to challenge us to find new ways of accomplishing familiar tasks. But through it all, our commitment to you has never wavered—in fact, it has only strengthened our determination to provide you with the best experience possible. While our spring semester will follow last semester's lead and continue to differ from the norm, we now know different can be good—even exceptional.

Until we can safely meet in the classroom again, we invite you to join us for a semester to rememberround two!

The instructors are prepping and practicing their presentations, ILR's volunteers are fired up, and our excitement is overflowing. The only missing piece is YOU!

Here's your long-awaited sneak peek at the ILR Spring 2021 Course Catalog. The catalog will be available this semester in PDF format only. Mailed catalogs will resume once in-person classes are fully available.

You can do this

With all hands on deck, we’ll pivot from the norm and offer our second virtual semester. With a little determination and a positive attitude, like your classmates last semester, you will be successful.
The ILR website has been fully updated with the spring content and will be your one-stop resource for a successful registration experience.
With a few exceptions, the majority of our spring classes will be delivered online using Webex virtual conferencing. Webex video conferencing training and support will be available for everyone new to Webex and those who want a refresher. Sign up for your Webex Intro Training here. Meeting face-to-face virtually is the next best thing to being in the classroom. For many, it provides even greater opportunities.

A large number of dedicated ILR volunteers have invested a lot of time and energy creating this virtual semester experience for you. Please reward their efforts by joining us this spring.

What others are saying about Webex...
“I actually liked the Webex experience. I was able to participate while on vacation... and attending a 9:00 class was much easier this way than driving to Oxford or Monroe.” ~ Jan Williams (11/2020)

“Thank you, it was a great distraction during challenging times. Instructors were professional, informative and so enjoyable. I loved everything about the format!” ~ Michelle Catania (11/2020)

“WEBEX allowed me to attend lectures usually offered in Oxford that I cannot travel to anymore. Hope we can have a hybrid format in the future.” ~ Elizabeth Patterson (11/2020)

“As someone who recently retired, I was curious and looking for something with which to engage/learn but without too much time commitment. This was perfect.” ~ Mark Klingman (11/2020)

“The Covid isolation contributed to my taking on so many classes—but the variety and quality of the offerings was well worth it!” ~ Eleanor Wagner (11/2020)

ILR goes global

As we continue our third decade of providing excellence in lifelong learning, our virtual semester opens doors and creates new opportunities for those living across town, on the other side of the country, or anywhere in the world.
Spread the word, forward this email, and invite your friends and relatives to join you in class this semester.

Silver linings

Every cloud has one, but here's a BIG one. Without the hassle of travel time from one side of town to the other, nearly every ILR class is available to you. For some, that means class options have increased tenfold! And because our classroom is virtual, running short of seats won't be an issue for many of our classes. Some discussion classes will still have limited space, however, so early registration is encouraged.

Reflecting

ILR's mission is to serve the lifelong learning community by providing enriching, engaging, and enlightening experiences. Before long, our time away from the classroom and touring will become a distant memory. Until then, enjoy this video of our first 20 years for a look back at where we've been and the many friends and memories we've made along the way. Looking forward, let's support each other while making new memories together this spring. Let's do this!

Online or by mail

At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 1st, our website will be updated with the live link to online registration, and our office will begin processing mailed registrations in the order they were received. Online registration is your quickest option and immediately reserves your seat in your desired classes. Online registration–accessed from the ILR website–takes only minutes and requires no passwords. Once you experience the ease of registering online, you'll understand the appeal. It's the most efficient means of registering, both for you and the ILR office.

Dynamic duo twofer

The father-son duo, Karl and Ben Mattox, returns this semester to teach a pair of science classes you'll not soon forget. Join them on Monday mornings for Climate Change: The Most Important Problem of Our Time (also featuring Mark Boardman), followed on Friday mornings exploring Evolution: What it is and Why it Matters. What priceless memories they're making as they teach together for ILR. Invite your parent(s) or adult child(ren) to class and begin making cherished memories of your own. See the ILR Spring 2021 Course Catalog, pages 6 and 21, for further information on these classes.
