On August 18th, Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order to ban nonferrous mining in the Boundary Waters (and the entirety of the Rainy River Headwaters Watershed in Northern Minnesota). This means that the door is again closed to nonferrous mining in this special place!
You can go to Save the Boundary Waters to learn more about conservation efforts in Northern Minnesota.

Go on a walk! Enjoy the wonderful and beautiful outdoors. The Sprout Food Forest (1270 30th St) has some wonderful shade and seating if you are looking for a destination.

Join the Sustainability Committee. Be a part of the team of students, staff, and faculty working towards a sustainable campus.

Educate yourself on Des Moines recycling guidelines. Did you know that Starbucks cups are not recyclable? Neither are berry containers! Educate yourself, and share that knowledge with those around you.

Volunteer with the Sprout Garden! We are harvesting, weeding, and more - and we need your help. Sign up on DUgood!

Register for the Iowa Environmental Council conference. This conference is hosted at Drake University and brings together environmental advocates across the state. Student registration is free!

- This semesters focus will be on re-evaluating the Sustainability Plan.
- Our pilot of Griff's Green Move Out (run by student Scout Walker) diverted over 1600 lbs of waste from the landfill! Thank you to everyone who helped with this project, and to our partners Freestore and Habitat ReStore.

My name is Sydney Dvorak, and I am the Sustainability Coordinator here at Drake. I do everything from tracking our utility usage to planning events in order to engage our community with sustainability initiatives on campus!
