“Naked Carbs” is a wellness buzzword used to describe foods that are mostly simple carbohydrates without any fat, protein or fiber. “Simple carbs can give you a sugar rush. They get digested very quickly, and the sugar goes straight into your bloodstream and raises your glucose,” said Sandra J. Arévalo, MPH, RDN, director of community health and wellness at Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

Blood Donors Needed
As the weather gets warmer, the need for blood donors increases. Montefiore Nyack Hospital is hosting a blood drive with the New York Blood Center (NYBC) on Wednesday, May 1. The NYBC’s Bloodmobile will be stationed in the Physician’s Lot, located off Rte. 9W between Fifth and Midland Avenues in Nyack from Noon to 6 p.m. Appointments are highly encouraged.

Cancer Screening Event
The Breast Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital will offer free breast exams and mammography for individuals, ages 40 and over, in Rockland County who are uninsured and meet eligibility requirements on Friday, May 10th, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 845-348-8511.
