NSC PILOT AWARD CALLS FOR APPLICATIONS

Rolling deadline
The University of Southern California and Buck Institute Nathan Shock Center is accepting applications for Pilot Research Projects and Vouchers for Core Services in the biology of aging on a rolling basis.

  • Core Vouchers are available for a single assay/technology service.
  • Pilot Projects extend larger support and typically utilize multiple assays or core services.
  • Mini-sabbaticals provide opportunities to visit in-person and learn technologies hands-on and establish collaborations with faculty experts.

Rolling deadline
Projects should utilize the specific services provided by one or more of the UW Nathan Shock Center Cores. The awards are generally up to $10,000, depending on the specific needs of the applicant. View the RFA here.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT & FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Travel Awards are available for approximately 10 early career investigators or investigators in training, who will participate in a special session at the meeting on July 20, that will focus on career development. The travel awards will cover travel to and from the meeting, meals, and hotel accommodations. Successful applicants will be affiliated with institutions with at least one NIA-supported center, and will have demonstrated translational or multidisciplinary interests in aging related to the workshop topic.

This mechanism provides funding to catalyze enduring collaborations for at least two collaborative pilot, planning or meeting grants of up to $65,000 supporting interdisciplinary research in cross cutting theme areas per year. Proposals should address topics spanning the missions of multiple NIA Center programs. Relevant topics are exemplified by the themes of RCCN-sponsored workshops. Each project should involve at least two NIA-sponsored research centers.

UW Healthy Aging and Longevity Research Institute 
The goals of the BMHA training program are to provide outstanding pre-doctoral and post-doctoral scientists with (1) rigorous training in cutting-edge research focused on biological mechanisms of healthy aging, (2) exposure to, and the ability to critically evaluate, the breadth of knowledge, concepts, and approaches important in the field, and (3) the mentoring and skill sets necessary to achieve career success and become future scientific leaders. 
Upcoming Open Pre and Post Doc Appointments:
  • 1 Postdoc Opening beginning 10/2023- Applications due by April 15, 2023
  • 2 Postdoc Openings beginning 1/15/24- Applications due by October 15, 2023
  • 1 Postdoc Opening beginning 3/15/24- Applications due by January 1, 2024
  • 1 Postdoc Opening beginning 7/15/24- Applications due by January 1, 2024

Applications will be received on a rolling basis but applications submitted by the deadlines will be given priority.

In addition to current potential postdocs within your lab, we welcome BMHA Faculty to use these postdoctoral openings as you begin recruitment conversations with potential post-docs for your lab. Please reach out to the BMHA Leadership team if you may have a postdoctoral candidate who may be a good fit for the T32 training grant to discuss their project/research goals.

Rolling Deadline
The Dorothy Dillon Eweson Lecture Series provides support to encourage investigators in the field of aging research to present findings at an annual scientific or medical specialty association meeting where aging-related research is not the primary focus. The Eweson Lecture series provides selected applicants with funding up to a maximum of $2,000 to cover travel expenses and meeting-related fees. For more information and to apply, visit the AFAR website here.
