2015 Conference Introduces Learning Lab Sessions
Registration is now open for the 2015 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference & Policy Symposium, which will be held in Washington, D.C. at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, May 7-9, 2015. Along with workshops on a variety of topics, this year's conference will also feature Learning Labs, or in-depth professional development sessions with hands-on training.
This year's Learning Lab topics include transgender health, Universal Data Systems (UDS), consumer leadership, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). The Learning Labs will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with a 45-minute break for a boxed lunch. These sessions are part of the regular conference schedule and are offered this year at no additional cost to conference attendees. Learn more and register for the conference.
East Coast Regional Training
Join us for two full days of professional development and networking in New York City, March 26-27, 2015, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Oberia Dempsey Multi-Services Center, 127 W. 127th Street. The training will include interactive, hands-on sessions on quality improvement, cultural competency for LGBTQ youth, transgender health, self-care, and much more. A Policy Roundtable forum with state leaders will highlight the impact of New York's Medicaid redesign on homeless care providers. Register now.
Health Centers and Academic Institutions: Promising Practices for Successful Collaborations Health center program grantees that serve homeless and underserved populations document long-standing relationships with academic institutions that provide education for students in health professions such as medicine and nursing. This report highlights findings of the experiences of HCH centers that collaborate with academic institutions. The research not only documents experiences, benefits, and barriers, but most importantly, replicable promising practices for health centers to implement.
Nominate a Clinician for the Karen Rotondo Award
The Karen Rotondo Award for Outstanding Service, which honors the memory of the "Founding Mother" of the HCH Clinicians' Network, will be presented at the 2015 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference in May. Nominate an exemplary clinician who demonstrates vision and creativity and who advances the goals of ending and preventing homelessness. Nominations are due by February 6, 2015. Learn more.
The Connections Project Call for Proposals 
The Connections Project is a three-year, place-based, systems-level collaboration and capacity-building invitation to communities nationwide. The Request for Proposals aims to identify up to five sites to plan, implement, and strengthen innovative systems collaboration ideas to meet the goal of increasing employment and economic opportunity for homeless jobseekers. Selected sites may be awarded up to $125,000 per site over the full project period, intensive technical assistance, and peer learning opportunities. Learn more and apply.
Adapted Clinical Guidelines for Cardiovascular Diseases
The Health Care for the Homeless Clinicians’ Network is inviting participation in an advisory committee to update the Adapted Clinical Guidelines on Cardiovascular Diseases. Most recently updated in 2009, these guidelines expire from the National Guidelines Clearinghouse this year. RCPN Steering Committee Call for Nominations
We invite you to nominate yourself, a colleague, or a program participant for a position on the National Health Care for the Homeless Respite Care Providers' Network (RCPN) Steering Committee. The Steering Committee manages and directs the work of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council as it relates to medical respite care. More information and a nomination form can be found on the RCPN webpage. The deadline for nominations is Friday, February 27, 2015.
Medical Respite Award Call for Nominations
The Medical Respite Award for Excellence recognizes outstanding contributions by a person, team, or agency based on their impact on improved health and quality of life for people experiencing homelessness. Contributions may include clinical care, program development, policy change, advocacy, community collaboration, or research innovations. If you know a person, team, or agency that has made a profound impact in your community through the delivery or advancement of medical respite care, please submit a nomination. The deadline for nominations is Friday, February 27, 2015
Policy Job Opportunity
Interested in helping prevent and end homelessness through advocacy? The Council is looking for a Health Policy Organizer to mobilize the HCH community around our advocacy agenda, which includes access to quality health care, affordable housing, and livable incomes. Based at the Baltimore HCH project, this position will represent HCH interests on Capitol Hill, work to organize Council members and coalition partners, and inform the HCH Community about policy decisions happening in Washington D.C. Council Welcomes New Consumer Advocate
Katherine Cavanaugh, MSW, is the Council's new National Consumer Advocate. Previously, Katherine was with both United Workers and Housing Our Neighbors. She has also worked as a sexual assault and family services counselor, and she initiated the Health Care is a Human Right campaign at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Katherine will staff the National Consumer Advisory Board (NCAB), help coordinate consumer initiatives, and further develop Council relationships with local consumer advisory boards (CABs).
APHA Annual Meeting and Exposition Caucus on Homelessness Call for Abstracts
The 143rd American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Exposition will take place Oct. 31- Nov. 4, 2015 in Chicago, Illinois. The Caucus on Homelessness invites you to submit abstracts on research, epidemiology, policy, legislation, advocacy, and service delivery  pertaining to homelessness and homeless populations by Monday, February 9, 2015. Member Spotlight: Care for Companion Animals
This month we celebrate the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium for their Veterinary Street Outreach Services (VET SOS)  program. VET SOS provides free veterinary care to the companion animals of homeless San Franciscans and links their human guardians with health care services. The VET SOS team builds relationships of trust and breaks down the barriers that keep homeless people and their companion animals from the care they need and deserve.
Inside the Council Website: New Operations Resources
The Council website has added new resource pages under Operations Management. These pages arrange existing online resources that address the 19 HRSA Health Center Program Requirements. Additional pages for administrative resources for homeless program management and operations are currently being developed and will be included in the Operations Management section.
