Groundbreaking Ceremony for Louisiana Future Energy Center Held at The Beach at UNO |

On September 17, partners from across South Louisiana’s H2theFuture initiative were joined by representatives from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and energy industry leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony commemorating the Louisiana Future Energy Center (LFEC). The Center, located on the campus of The Beach at UNO, will position Louisiana as a national leader in energy innovation, education, and economic growth by establishing a destination for energy startups.

Electrical Engineering Grad Talks Microgrids |
Dominic Traina '19, sales executive at Schneider Electric, visited on October 10 to give an Introduction to Microgrids. He talked to students about electrical systems operations and responding to grid disturbances. He closed by walking Dr. Dimitrios Charlampidis through a virtual reality demonstration of how to operate a power transfer switch. Thanks to Dominic for an informative and engaging discussion.

Engineering Students Join Business Students for Spotlight the Employer Event |
UNO's ENGR 1000 course attended the Business Career Coaching Center's "Spotlight the Employer" event recently that featured the Port of New Orleans. Students heard from UNO engineering alumni on their industry and the many job opportunities with the Port. They also got tips on leveraging their studies toward a professional career. We thank Jaimee Carreras in the BCCC for the invitation!

We kicked off our new Engineering Graduate Speaker Series this fall with two events thus far. Alexis Hornsby '22, Associate Engineer at Wingate Engineers, spoke about the transition from academic to professional life, giving tips to students about how to build up their resumes. In October, Lami Paul Gindiri ' 22, MsC, University of Strathclyde, UK gave a talk entitled "Developing a Research Mindset: Engineering & Academia."
