Summer Work Opportunity for Graduate Students |
We are seeking a Duke graduate student to join us this summer to provide part-time, temporary assistance with the Canvas LMS transition. This role will help lead online training sessions, assist with one-on-one consultations and build course materials in Canvas for faculty. The student will gain experience with faculty service and ed tech support, while getting a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to roll out a campus-wide technology system.

Now that Spring 2023 is officially over, the transition to Canvas is really beginning to amp up. This summer, the LMS Transition project team is working to support the instructors who are using Canvas to teach this Summer, preparing nearly 300 instructors to teach with Canvas this coming Fall, and making a plan for training and support for all other instructors to be able to adopt Canvas in Spring 2024. Check out the project timeline for more details.

Mark Hart, the associate dean of Sanford School of Public Policy, shared his experience using the Sakai2Canvas tool developed by the project team:
"We are serving as one of the early adopters for our Master of National Security Policy executive / hybrid program and it has been a great process so far moving courses from Sakai to Canvas."

"I was really surprised with how so much came over from the Sakai course cleanly to Canvas, especially being two separate platforms, through the migration process. Most every file, video, assignment, etc. came over correctly labeled, with settings intact, and organized in the correct course placement so that gave us a great head start with updating these courses. All in all, it has been an easy process and now we are excited to be utilizing the full capabilities of Canvas while also taking advantage of its ease of use in course building for faculty to create an intuitive experience for students."

Frequently Asked Questions |
What will happen this Fall? |
Because Canvas will be open for all instructors to begin using in Spring 2024, training opportunities will be available to all instructors to learn how to use Canvas this Fall. In addition, there will be a process and support for migrating content from Sakai to Canvas. More details will be available closer to the start of the Fall term, but there is no need to pre-register or sign up for anything at this time.
|
What will happen to my project sites? |
The equivalent to Sakai project sites in Canvas will be “Collaboration Sites.” These will be available by request starting Spring 2024, so plan to continue to use your Sakai project sites through 2023.
See the LMS Transition website for additional frequently asked questions.
