Villanova University Celebrates 18th Annual St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service

On Saturday, September 30th, thousands of Villanovan's conducted community service at sites throughout the region as part of the University's 18th annual St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service.

From the Villanova Media Room, "Aligning with Villanova’s Augustinian Catholic mission, the day of service is a celebration of the University’s values of Veritas, Unitas, Caritas—Truth, Unity and Love. It is also one of the Delaware Valley’s largest single-day community service events. Each year, Villanova volunteers collectively perform thousands of hours of service work, providing vital support to charitable causes and organizations ranging from food pantries and community gardens to local schools and homeless shelters.

“The St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service is a wonderful opportunity for us to join together as a community, to live out our University mission, and to make a powerful impact on communities and organizations in need,” said University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD. “I look forward to this event each fall, and I anticipate another great year for this important Villanova tradition.”

Thousands of volunteers deployed to more than 140 service sites throughout Greater Philadelphia, including several in communities around campus. One such local project was a clean-up at the West Wayne Cemetery. Members of Villanova's NROTC, Radnor Township neighbors, Radnor Township Public Works staff and Ward 6 Commissioner Jake Abel, came together to clean-up significant overgrowth and improve the landscape at this historic resting place. When the day’s work was complete, the University donated the tools to the Township so they can be available to other volunteer groups seeking to perform similar clean-up efforts throughout Radnor. Villanova was proud to partner with Commissioner Abel and Radnor Township on this special project.

Villanova Holds the 2nd Annual Community Cookout in Bryn Mawr

Coinciding with National Good Neighbor Day, Villanova's Office of Government Relations and External Affairs in partnership with the Dean of Students Office, held its 2nd annual Community Cookout on Thursday, 9/28 in the heart of Bryn Mawr in Lower Merion Township.

This free event featured music, campus resources, giveaways, and food provided by a local business, La Cabra Smokehouse. Neighbors, off-campus students, and members of Township staff and law enforcement had the opportunity to meet and get to know one another in the center of their shared community.

Fall Neighbors Meeting - Tuesday, 10/17

Join us for our Fall Neighbors meeting on Tuesday, October 17th at 7PM in the Smith Performance Lab at the Mullen Center.

Trick or Treat Community Event: Sunday, 10/29

Calling all ghouls and goblins! Join us on Sunday, 10/29 for a spooky time at the Riley Ellipse! Enjoy crafts, treats, music, and more with friends and family. Costumes encouraged.

Fall Semester Hours for the Fitness Center in the Davis Center for Athletics and Fitness
The Davis Fitness Center is operating on regularly scheduled semester hours. Please note that members of the Friends of Villanova program have limited access to this facility when classes are in session during the semester.

Monday -Thursday: 7-11 AM and 8 PM – 12 AM

Fridays: 7 AM-11 AM

Saturdays: 10 AM – 6 PM

Sundays: 10 AM – 12 AM

Recreational Swim Hours at the Pavilion Pool
Recreational swim is available at the Pavilion Pool for the fall semester. Please visit the Aquatics website for more information on recreational swim hours and pool guidelines.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 8 AM - 12:45 PM

Tuesday, Thursday: 9 AM - 1 PM

**There will be no recreational swim on the following dates:**

10/09/23 - 10/13/2023: Fall Break

11/21/23 - Rec Swim will end at 11:30 for Varsity Meet

11/22 - 11/24: Thanksgiving Break

Wildcard Office Hours

**SERVER MAINTENANCE - 10/6-10/8, 10/10**

Please be advised that Villanova will undergo required server maintenance from 10/6-10/8 and 10/10. During this time, processing Friends of Villanova applications will be paused. Approval status emails and Wildcard distribution on campus will resume on 10/11.

All new and returning members must visit the Wildcard Office in person to complete the membership applications. The Wildcard Office has resumed fall semester hours.

New Applications and Renewals

All new applications and membership renewals must be initiated on-line at www.villanova.edu/fovmembership.

Please note that all approved members must complete the membership process at the Wildcard Office in person. Wildcards may only be issued to the verified member to whom it is assigned.

The Art Gallery at Villanova

Introducing O'Neil Scott: Overcome Everything – a captivating exploration of self-taught Philadelphia-based artist O'Neil Scott's journey. Boldly addressing social justice, climate change, and the Black Lives Matter movement, his portraits delve into the complexities of humanity. Each stroke carries a message, inviting viewers to reflect, contemplate, and empathize. Join us in experiencing the convergence of art and advocacy in Scott's masterful creations.

About the Gallery

Over the years, guest artists exhibiting at the gallery have come from as far away as Kuwait and as close to home as Philadelphia. The gallery has hosted exhibits of traditional watercolors from China, carved masks and totems from the Yoruba culture of West Africa, Batiks from Belorussia, and handcrafted ceramics and glassware from Italy. We have served as an inaugural venue for young artists and provided an exhibition space for talented older citizens whose discovery of the artist within came much later in life.

All exhibits are open to the public and are free of charge.

The Gallery is located in the heart of Villanova's main campus on the second floor of the Connelly Center.
