New PSU-LAIKA collaboration fosters next generation of artists |
Portland State University and LAIKA have announced an exciting new partnership aimed at diversifying and strengthening the region's creative workforce. LAIKA is an award-winning Portland-based animation studio known for groundbreaking films such as Coraline, ParaNorman and Kubo and the Two Strings. This three-year pilot program will connect PSU faculty and students with LAIKA's creative team, offering mentorship, curriculum development and scholarship opportunities. The initiative highlights PSU's commitment to supporting the next generation of arts and creators in Portland's growing creative industries.

Federal funding submission opportunity |
PSU is excited to announce an opportunity for faculty and researchers to submit federal funding requests for Community-Initiated Projects (CIPs, sometimes known as "earmarks"), and programmatic funding (including language requests) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026. This opportunity is a collaboration between Research and Graduate Studies and our colleagues in Government Relations. PSU can only submit a limited number of requests, we are opening a call for preliminary applications to ensure we prioritize the most impactful projects. The deadline for initial submissions is Nov. 15.

Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) is accepting feedback from the campus community on the penultimate draft of the RGS Roadmap to 2030. This roadmap outlines ambitious goals for the future of research and graduate education at PSU, and input from the wider PSU community is critical as we finalize it. Review the draft RGS Roadmap to 2030 and provide your feedback by Friday, Nov. 8.

The Division of Global Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) is revitalizing the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Steering Committee, guided by Araceli Cruz, AVP of GDI. Co-chairs Tania Sanchez and Emanuel Magaña will lead efforts to achieve HSI status, which will enhance resources, create impactful programs, and support faculty development, reinforcing our commitment to equity and justice. Fall 2024 Administrative Briefing available to view online |
Approximately 200 PSU employees attended the Fall 2024 Administrative Briefing, either online or in-person on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Attendees received updates from PSU leaders about the university’s priorities for the 2025 legislative session, construction and real estate projects, financial sustainability planning and more. A recording of the briefing is now available online.

Free outfits at the Career Clothing Closet |
Do you know of any students who need professional clothes, accessories and/or shoes for a job interview or work event? Tell them they can pick up FREE gently worn professional clothing at the Career Clothing Closet at the Karl Miller Center (KMC 410). Clothing is free for all PSU students. A variety of styles and sizes are available — plus a clothes iron and steamer! The Career Clothing Closet is open Mondays - Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The PSU Writing Center is open for both online and in-person appointments. We can help writers at any step in the process, from generating ideas to the final polish. The Writing Center website has a variety of writing resources for both students and instructors. We also offer walk-ins Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in FMH 360, first come first served.

Tell your future leaders about ASPSU’s immersive class |
Students can unlock their potential with PS 110, the Civic Leadership Development Internship course! This dynamic 4 credit course during winter term of each academic year is designed to cultivate early involvement in organizing, participatory democracy and student advocacy. Tailored to meet the needs of student interns, the course offers an immersive on-campus experience in student government (ASPSU). Portland State Magazine: Where Art Meets Activism |
This fall, PSU’s College of the Arts launched a new undergraduate major for students who want to combine their creative practice with the power of community engagement and advocacy for social justice. Led by interdisciplinary educator Amanda Singer and celebrated jazz musician and professor Darrell Grant, the program is the first of its kind in the nation.
