Mountain Lions in the Open Space

Ken-Caryl Ranch has cameras in the open space to collect data, and they are not there for security or safety reasons. One of the trail cameras happened to take this picture of a mountain lion on High Meadow Trail on Oct. 7. Mountain lions can be encountered anywhere in the open space. When you walk or hike in mountain lion country, go in groups and make plenty of noise to reduce your chances of surprising a lion. Make sure children are close to you and within your sight at all times. We recommend viewing the Mountain Lion Safety video and reading more about mountain lions on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website.

Senior Living Center Planned in Ken-Caryl Business Center

The Ken-Caryl Senior Living Center is a planned 113-room, three-story building on 3.73 acres of land off Shaffer Parkway in the Ken-Caryl Business Center. The development will be an environmentally friendly 103,896 square foot (excluding underground parking garage), state-of-the-art care facility to provide a spectrum of services to the senior residents of west Denver and the foothills communities. The property will feature a continuum of care from independent living to secured memory care and all levels of assisted living in between with attached covered secured parking and a full complement of services and amenities. More information regarding construction schedules will be communicated as the information becomes available.

Ken-Caryl Community Garden Plots Available for 2015 Growing Season

The Ken-Caryl Community Garden is located next to the Community Center in the Valley. Residents are invited to join the community of gardeners by registering for a garden plot for the 2015 season. The plot fees have been reduced for 2015 because an adequate amount of reserve money as required by the Metro District has been set aside, and now the fees will cover only ongoing costs. The plot fees for 2015 are $100 for a large plot (reduced from $150) and $75 for a small plot (reduced from $100). In addition there is a $50 deposit that is returned if your volunteer duties are fulfilled. Registration for plots is open to the general public via the Class Registration site. If you have any questions, contact Harriet Camp at 720-261-5252.
