Join us in congratulating the winners of this year's student photo contest.
During our annual Stanford Global Studies (SGS) summer film festival, we will show 10 films from around the world that focus on the theme “Earth: Habitat for All.” Screenings will take place most Wednesdays from June 19 – September 4. 
The minor in human rights offered by the Handa Center for Human Rights & International Justice was renewed this month for a five year term by Stanford's Academic Council.
Stanford’s Office of International Affairs has awarded funding to six faculty members, including Latin American Studies affiliate Grant Miller, to pursue innovative international research.
In a tech ethics course taught by SGS Director Jeremy M. Weinstein, Stanford students examine the ethical and social impacts of technological innovation.
Over 30 different departments and organizations on campus, including East Asian Studies and Iranian Studies, hosted 80+ guest artists during spring quarter.
Gordon H. Chang, former director of the Center for East Asian Studies, assumed his new role as the senior associate vice provost for undergraduate education on April 1.

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar visited Stanford to discuss sports, politics, race relations, and religion at an event sponsored by the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies.
Human rights attorney Nicholas Opiyo, a former visiting scholar at the Center for African Studies, encouraged students to learn about what is happening in Uganda at the annual Stanford Global Studies Student Dinner.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michele Bachelet visited campus to speak with students from the Handa Center.
Historian Mrinalini Sinha visited Stanford to deliver the Center for South Asia’s Annual Lecture. Her presentation explored the making of a “democratic people,” with a particular focus on Gandhi’s role in shaping this process in India. 
Former U.S. Secretary of State George P. Shultz convened a panel on “Governance in an Emerging World.” The panel, which featured Iranian Studies Faculty Director Abbas Milani and Islamic Studies Faculty Director Lisa Blaydes, highlighted the importance of the Middle East in what Shultz called “a globe on a hinge of history.”
Jason Rezaian came to campus to discuss his new bookPrisoner: My 544 Days in an Iranian Prison, with Brett McGurk, the former special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, at an event sponsored by Stanford’s Iranian Studies Program.
