It’s summer in the city and the living is…well nicely busy to be candid. I hope you have or soon will have an opportunity to relax and enjoy good weather. In that spirit, I intentionally keep this column brief and simply share one timely point.
Thoughtful Growth: You may have seen the announcement that we recently acquired ORION Investment Advisors, a Washington, DC area firm with a terrific reputation for serving nonprofit organizations. Prior to the acquisition, DiMeo Schneider ranked a Top 40 Worldwide Consulting Firm* by Pensions & Investments and a Top 20 domestic RIA** by Financial Advisor Magazine.
So why, after 22 years of pure organic growth, did we decide to acquire a firm? Beyond the obvious and important alignment of approach and culture, there are two main reasons. First and I’ve referenced this in previous columns, growth is not optional since the firm’s greatest assets are our people. If you know us, you know we’re measured and thoughtful and certainly would never carelessly pursue growth. That said, we’ve strongly believed for many years that growth is essential in order to attract, reward and professionally stimulate highly talented individuals.
The second driver for the acquisition is actually a positive reflection on the state of our firm. With an outstanding client roster, robust research, strong firm administration and a collection of colleagues that would make any business leader proud, we found ourselves in a favorable position to add meaningful value to a smaller organization. And while you shouldn’t expect us to be acquiring firms left and right, I could see us adding one or two more like-minded firms in the coming years. Though rest assured that we absolutely revere our relationship with clients and embrace a measured approach to growth.
