New Publisher

New Society Publishers is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Raddysh as Publisher.  Raddysh takes over the reins from Publisher and co-founder Judith Plant.
Plant says, “The appointment of Julie Raddysh as Publisher seems a natural and positive progression for her and for the dedicated team at New Society Publishers. “
With over 250 books in print,  New Society has a long track record for setting a high bar for sustainability both within the company’s organization and with the subject matter of their books.  A proud and successful social enterprise, in 2001 they committed to publishing all their books on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper, leading the book publishing community in Canada.  They were the first carbon-neutral publishing house in North America, and in 2015, the staff became equal shareholders in the company through an employee trust which holds one-third ownership of the company. The company is also a registered B Corporation. All New Society books are simultaneously released in print and digital formats, and New Society has introduced a unique component to its thriving ebook program -- New Society’s Guide To Environmentally Responsible Digital Reading.

In Memory of Chris Plant

Christopher (Kip) Plant (1950 – 2015) was cofounder of New Society Publishers (Canada), along with his partner in life and business, Judith Plant. Kip was passionate about his work, and was a mentor to many.  In honour of Kip, the New Society family built a bus shelter on the Gabriola Island Community Bus route. As the bus system on our little island was a community-led initiative, the shelter project married well with Kip’s work in social justice, progressive leadership, sustainable building, and peak oil. Still to be installed is a book shelf for riders to lend and borrow from. Read more here.
