Brown Completes Three New Book Chapters |
Dr. Angelo Brown, assistant professor of criminology, is the author of chapters in three new books published by IGI Global. One chapter is “AI and the Legal Challenges of Law and the Criminal Justice System,” with the abstract online. “Law and the Criminal Justice System: A Framework for the Effective and Equitable Use of Artificial Intelligence,” is the second chapter. His third chapter is “A Global Analysis of Sex Work, Morality, and Regulation.”

| Neuman-Lee Keynotes Global Conference |
Dr. Lori Neuman-Lee, associate professor of physiology, gave the keynote address at the Global Amphibian and Reptile Disease Conference in Knoxville. Speaking on "Measuring Reptile Health Using Physiological Profiles," she highlighted the importance of using physiological metrics as a way of assessing reptile health, especially in the face of global decline due to disease. Neuman-Lee focused on measuring immune function in wild reptiles, which helps to predict disease susceptibility.

Dewald Authors Analysis of Female Policing |
Dr. Stacy Dewald, assistant professor of criminology, co-authored an article in Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice. Her work, supported by an A-State Faculty Research Award, examines women’s experiences serving in law enforcement and the factors that influenced their decisions to pursue policing careers. Dewald based conclusions primarily on interviews with female officers from two U.S. law enforcement agencies, noting that early exposure to policing played a significant role in fostering career interest.

| Carpenter is Conference Healthcare Panelist |
Dr. Amanda Carpenter, associate professor of public health, program director, and assistant dean, was an invited panelist at the Arkansas Rural Development Conference. The panel on rural healthcare’s future included healthcare administrators, educators and other experts. Panelists provided their perspectives on rural health and the future for Arkansas. Topics included access, the use of technology in providing rural healthcare, and the federal Rural Health Transformation Program.

Rabbi Earns Best Paper Award from IISE |
A paper by Fazla Rabbi, instructor in engineering management, received the Best Paper Award in the sustainable development category at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Conference and Expo. Rabbi’s paper shows how artificial intelligence can help identify wildfires at an early stage using digital images from a variety of sources. By comparing advanced deep learning models, this research identified a highly accurate approach that can support earlier wildfire detection and reduce environmental and economic impact.
